Hello! Is anyone familiar with virtual trading card games? There's [community profile] colors_tcg on Dreamwidth for example, and there are games like Sakura and Sidequest on their own sites!

But what I've been wanting is a video game TCG here on Dreamwidth...so I've been making one! Would anyone be interested in being a mod for the game? Or even a co-admin?

I've done a lot of the foundation work for the game, and it's time now to get others involved and work toward the prejoin event and grand opening! (: The community is at [community profile] ggtcg and we've got a nice website up and running. Feel free to poke around!

There are various mod tasks available!
  • running services like masteries, currency shop, level ups, etc.
  • running the weekly and biweekly games
  • modding the discord (if we decide we want one)
  • deckmaking! (if you enjoy making icons or graphics, you might like making decks!)
If you're interested in learning more, feel free to join the mod community at [community profile] ggtcg_mods where we can all talk together and do some planning!

There's a wide variety in terms of work load as well, so if you're interested in helping but don't have a ton of time, go ahead a join, too!

(And finally if anyone is interested in playing once the game opens, but doesn't want to mod, membership at [community profile] ggtcg is open! The game isn't running yet, but the prejoin event will begin once we've got a few mods on board.)

THE GAME!

As I mentioned, our TCG is for video games! If you're unfamiliar with virtual TCGs, the goal is to get all the cards in a deck! And there are lots of decks! Here for instance is Dwight's deck, from Dead by Daylight! A lot of your favorite characters will have the chance to get decks of their own for you to collect...and of course you'll be able to donate decks you'd like to have in the game! We also have multicharacter decks! Here is a deck for the point-and-click mystery game Whispers of a Machine.

We've got most of the services and activities you'd expect from a virtual TCG! We have deck masteries that come with rewards! Trading cards with other players is central to the game and also grants rewards! There are currency shop to visit, level ups, plus lots more! Go ahead and look around the community and the website and check it all out.

We've also got a several vouchers you can earn, with lots of different effects! Check out our voucher list here. They have a range of rarity, too!

Naturally, we also will have plenty of weekly and biweekly games to play to earn cards from, but the specifics of those will get ironed out by our new mods!

BOSS FIGHTS AND FOILS!

Our game has a few fun additions on top of the familiar TCG features! For one thing, we have the Final Boss, a monthly PvE activity that leans into our video game theme! :D Players use cards to attack the boss and earn high level rewards!

Check out Astarion modeling the Final Boss event here!

Oh, and we have a functioning loot drop system for the Final Boss!

You might notice something interesting looking at those loot drops above...Foil cards!

Some of our decks have rare Foil cards, shiny versions of their standard deck that are difficult to obtain! Mastering a Foil deck earns a unique Foil mastery and extra rewards!

Okay, I think that's a good brief intro to the game! Message me with any questions! Hope to see some of y'all around!

This is absolutely brilliant. I'm not overly familiar with TCGs or any card game beyond War or, say, Slay The Spire, or Hearthstone. But, I'm a quick learner. Unfortunately, I am arguably over-committed as it is with all the TFC Comms. Maybe you could try other forums like Gaming On Linux or the 64 Sprites XMPP MUC.

I would like to strongly recommend using XMPP (Jabber + Jitsi) and Murmur/Mumble or Matrix instead of discord. If you don't want to host your own, I'd let you use TFC's once I get them up and running (again 😅). You'd have so much more control and a much better experience. Plus, ya know, privacy.

Nice! PHP is on my list of languages to learn, eventually. It's been a while since I did any coding due to life, work, and all that wonderful stuff. lol...

I think Gaming On Linux was testing out Stoat. Don't know anything about it other than that and a brief look at their homepage a few weeks ago. I wouldn't waste my time on it. There have been so many chat softwares come and go over the years. XMPP has been around forever. Matrix is okay but, far heavier on resources and bloated. Jabber can be modular so if you don't need certain extensions, then you don't need to build them in.

TFC had a MetronomeIM XMPP server for a while. That'll come back. It was fairly easy to set up and the Project Lead is a cool feller. I chose that because it works well with microblogging like GNUsocial. They both use XML and other standards.

Matrix was more work to set up. If Dendrite ever gets released, that's supposed to be faster and more efficient. Last I checked, it still needed Jitsi to do the audio/video calls and it's a separate application to install on Android anyway. Someone told me that they were trying to bake it in but, I'm not sure. That'd be a huge amount of work to re-do everything Jitsi Meet does.

That said, I'm not sure what a regular call on XMPP + Jingle protocol is like. I do know that it's possible to use an XMPP account with Jitsi.
I'm probably talking way too much about this aspect. 😅

TFC needs people to help out if you're interested in helping run things and use our infrastructure for your objectives. If not, that's fine. lol
