Want to practice pixel art more, so I was thinking of doing some animated pixel icons for use on Dreamwidth.

To start, I'm thinking a series of pixel books, each with a different theme and animated elements. I made this first one to test the idea:

Posted a cool Dead by Daylight screenshot to hold_x_to_run ...and afterwards, noticed that the mod had previously declared the community to be shut down, whoops. Personally I think there is still use on DW for a horror video game community if anybody wants to make a replacement!

Aaaand, I didn't post there this week, but I HAVE been posting in watchpoint_gibraltar. Overwatch added five new heroes and the game is kind of good again??

Filters?!

Yooooo okay so I just discovered the power of filters here on DW. These things are great! This is going to make my reading page so much easier to go through!

How are y'all using filters? By fandom? By type of content people post?

Right now, as first iteration, I'm separating people into like "gamers" and "writers" for example. But of course then what do you do if someone is both an avid gamer and a writer? Do you put them in both filters even though that creates a redundancy, or do you pick one for them even though that is less accurate?

Or is it more useful to mainly use filters for categorizing communities instead of individual journals?

A virus just knocked my ass out for over a week. I have so much to catch up on, now!

Here's a sketch and line art for a portrait I started before I got taken out. This is Morrison, the main character of a vampire supremacist cult in my current Rimworld colony! I'm thinking I'll make a little Rimworld site/shrine with character portraits and bios for the main pawns in each colony I do for the channel.

Got my Kobo case!

Finding a Kobo case that wasn't just a generative AI image was maddening. I finally found this one, from Furever Booked, and it arrived today! They seemed like a legitimate small business, so I went for it.

Also pictured, the cute little dust plug I got for it, and a magnetic bookmark, both from the same shop.

Overwatch Competitive Placements

I placed into Platinum on Support for the first time! (Still barely clinging to Gold on Damage. We don't queue Tank.)

I did it mostly playing Mizuki, who I took an immediate shine to, both character and gameplay-wise. The last time I actually clicked with a new character was Lifeweaver, so it feels great to have someone new to play.

I just need them to release a Damage hero I can get into now that Sombra's in the gutter. I'm bouncing around between Reaper, Echo, Symm, and situationally Torb, but none of them hit quite like Sombra did.

Overwatch PvE

Well, Overwatch PvE is officially dead. No one is surprised and I can't say I'm even that bummed about it anymore. It's kind of nice to have the confirmation it's definitely not going to happen. (I didn't even buy Invasion—a paid version of an Archives mission doesn't sound that fun?? Like, I enjoyed Archives but I didn't enjoy it enough to pay extra for it.)

Has any other IP been fumbled THIS badly in proportion to how good it was? Because Overwatch was lightning in a bottle when it launched and it fizzled out in such a sad way!

But anyway, the gameplay is still fun, and still nothing can really come close to what it does! I've tried other games to try and replace Overwatch, but nothing hits the same, so as disappointed as I am with Blizzard in general and with how they mismanaged this game in particular, at least the PvP is still great, and with the changes to Competitive I'm back to playing that mode again, too!

I've picked up Lifeweaver and Illari as new mains, and I'm excited for Venture and the Mars support!

A video game TCG?

Hello! Is anyone familiar with virtual trading card games? There's colors_tcg on Dreamwidth for example, and there are games like Sakura and Sidequest on their own sites!

But what I've been wanting is a video game TCG here on Dreamwidth...so I've been making one! Would anyone be interested in being a mod for the game? Or even a co-admin?

I've done a lot of the foundation work for the game, and it's time now to get others involved and work toward the prejoin event and grand opening! (: The community is at ggtcg and we've got a nice website up and running. Feel free to poke around!

There are various mod tasks available!

running services like masteries, currency shop, level ups, etc.
running the weekly and biweekly games
modding the discord (if we decide we want one)
deckmaking! (if you enjoy making icons or graphics, you might like making decks!)

If you're interested in learning more, feel free to join the mod community at ggtcg_mods where we can all talk together and do some planning!

There's a wide variety in terms of work load as well, so if you're interested in helping but don't have a ton of time, go ahead a join, too!

(And finally if anyone is interested in playing once the game opens, but doesn't want to mod, membership at ggtcg is open! The game isn't running yet, but the prejoin event will begin once we've got a few mods on board.)

Video game werewolves and witches??

Question for anyone reading!

What are your favorite video game characters who are WITCHES or WEREWOLVES?

I need to start making the Halloween decks for ggtcg and I thought a deck dedicated to witches and werewolves each would be fun! But these are multifandom decks so if I go with games that I know myself then it won't have a good variety!

Drop me the names of your fave witches and werewolves in video games and if you have a favorite picture of them, even better!

video game TCG - a followup!

A bit ago I mentioned that I was messing around with a potential TCG for video games...and I have got a lot done since then!

Firstly, here's the final designs for most of the cards:

Here's the design for DLC decks. These are decks that are multifandom or multicharacter!

Also! All the important parts of the website are functioning. The game will mostly be played here on Dreamwidth, with the website providing additional support.

EVEN BETTER, the randomizers are working. These were critical, as mods will need them to generate random rewards for activities and games.

Here are the general randomizers, which can generate from all base and DLC decks or separate by category. I've also devised a method for random foil drops to occur with appropriate rarity in the basic randomizer: https://ggtcg.online/randomizer.php

I have also made the community for the game, ggtcg which has some preliminary info there on possible game schedule! The community is joinable if anyone wants to keep an eye on development, but not open for posting yet obviously.

NEXT TASKS

- MAKING DECKS. So many decks. And hopefully finding people willing to make decks with me or at least donate deck images.
- Documentation! Lots of write ups still to be made.
- Finding people who might be interested! Once more decks are made, I might start posting to some promo or gaming communities to see if there will be enough players for this to eventually launch.

A Video Game TCG?

Toying with the idea of making a video game only trading card game here on Dreamwidth, in the tradition of Lifebottle, Colors, etc.. This one would be ONLY video games but ALL video games, which is a niche I haven't seen in any of the current active tcgs, especially the ones attached to Dreamwidth.

I've been making practice decks for Overwatch at the moment while I work out how the game would play. Here's some examples!

The new voicelines and interactions!! Reaper telling Sigma to get back in his cage. Jack and Sigma! Jack and Widowmaker fighting over who loved Gerard most??! EVERYTHING Junkrat says. As mainly a fan of the lore and characters, I am eating well these days.
Some of the redesigns are tight.
Junkrat stopped setting his head on fire long enough for his hair to grow back, I'm so proud of him. ~~Mei will appreciate how well he cleans up.~~
PING SYSTEM
I can passive aggressively spam my respawn timer while the DPS who refused to protect me asks for heals while I'm dead.
It's nice to flex queue and not endlessly get tank time after time.
Mystery Heroes got promoted to the QP page.
Mercy's movement feels really good.

I often use this blog to post about fandom stuff! Different fandoms are organized in the tags. (You'll find Overwatch, Rimworld, several horror canons, and more there.) I'm an artist, and you'll also find various tags for original art and fanart. Occasionally, I'll post about IRL things, too.

I do a lot of writing, too, mostly original work. I love to connect with other writers! I write in the horror, fantasy, and sci-fi genres!
